Will my child need braces?

Almost every parent that brings their child in, asks this question. It's natural to wonder, and even more natural to want to know whether to start putting aside those gold coins for braces down the track!

While your dentist doesn't have a crystal ball, many orthodontic problems can be detected early. However, jaws and faces grow, and some issues that may seem to be a problem early on, may actually correct themselves with time. For some, a "wait and see" approach may be necessary, even though waiting may at times seem frustrating.

Some issues are best treated early, so it is important for children to be assessed by your dentist by at least 7-9 years of age.

And remember, orthodontic treatment is not just for kids! Adults can have treatment too, and today there are a number of discrete options such as tooth-coloured brackets and clear aligners (such as Invisalign which is done at Northbridge Dentists) which can almost invisibly and quickly straighten teeth!
